Professor Jacques Soulie

Professor Jacques Soulie, born in Toulouse,France, is the Director of the Alliance Francaise(French Cultural Centre) in Kandy. Soulie is a psychiatrist by profession and has been based in Sri Lanka for several years. He is considered to be one of the great contributors to Franco-Sri Lankan relations as he has served several years teaching the French language in his adopted country. He has also worked at the University of Peradeniya, as a visiting French language lecturer.

Although he is French, Soulie speaks and understands the Sinhalese language. He has been the catalyst for several arts and literary events in the Kandy area over the years.

Dr. Dittus

Dr. Dittus had his undergraduate training and experience in geology through McGill University and the International Nickel Company (INCO) in Canada. He has done experimental studies on the behavioral development (nature vs. nurture) of song in cardinal birds (Richmondena cardinalis). In the USA, he graduated with a Ph.D. in Zoology (Behavior and Ecology) from the University of Maryland, College Park based on his field research of toque macaques in Sri Lanka. As a post-graduate, he did brief population surveys of sloths and howler monkeys in the forests of Panama.

The early years of his childhood were spent in the Black Forest region of south-western Germany where he acquired an appreciation for nature. This was developed further by life on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and later by many summers camping in the wilderness of the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. He volunteered and worked in Canadian social welfare programs (Red Feather) as a boy’s camp leader and instructor. Throughout most of career Dr. Dittus has devoted his studies and teaching focused on nature and the outdoors.

Dr. Dittus is Chairman of the Association for the Conservation of Primate Diversity (ACPD) and is a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, Conservation Ecology Center, Washington DC, USA. He is also a Visiting Scientist at the Institute of Fundamental Studies in Sri Lanka.

Chandralal

You will meet our cyclist/guide Chandralal. He is an all-rounder with over two decades of experience in cycling in his hometown Galle. He is also an experienced diver and a mechanic by profession.

Eshan

Eshan has worked with the Eco Team, the owning company of Sri Lanka Day Tours for 20 years and is a veteran of all the adventures we have. Out of all the diverse activities, one of his pet areas is cycling and he is really good at it. He has covered all the cycling routs in the country, north to south and west to east. He has led cycling tours up to 21 days covering the entire country. Other than cycling, birding is one of his hobbies and this would be an added advantage for any guest who is interested in birds.
