Tour in brief

Bambarakanda Ella, [‘ella’ means falls] with a height of 795ft, contrary to the common belief, is the highest waterfall on the island. Although it doesn't possess a massive volume of water, it boasts of splendor and is very scenic.

A footpath leading to the Bambarakanda Waterfall, is off the Maha Eliya-Kalupahana (Horton Plains) road which is known as the “Satan's Steps” - as was dubbed by English planters during the colonial period. This path is about six (6) km from Kalupahana on the Colombo-Badulla main road. From the main road, after a considerable climb and a few hairpin bends along the rough and bumpy road, you come to the vicinity of the waterfall. From here, it's a walk of about half a kilometer of a rather challenging walk through a wooded area to the base of the waterfall, where you will be struck by the sight of a pool of crystal pure and chilly clear water. No doubt, you will be enticed to enjoy a dip in this ideal bathing spot at Bambarakanda Ella.
