Hidden in a 6000-hectare forest are giant tusker elephants, towering Kumbuk trees, and a 45 ft. statue dating back to the 5th century… explored through a Kalawewa National Park Safari.

The imposing Kala Wewa and Balalu Wewa tanks built in the 5th century BC by King Dhatusena adorns the 6000 hectare Kalawewa National Park, alongside with impressive 45 feet high standing Avukana Buddha statue built during the same era. But the centrepiece to the Park, are the star residents of the sanctuary - the tusker elephants. Of the male elephant population, only about seven per cent are tuskers. Kalawewa boasts of a high concentration of tuskers in Sri Lanka -  a privilege to sight.

The Angamedilla National Park is a protected wildlife reserve located within the Minneriya - Girithale Sanctuary. It is also in the heart of Sri Lanka's Dry Zone (225 kilometres from Colombo).

Its main feature is the Angammedilla Gal Amuna (stone weir) which creates one of the main feeds to the Parakrama Samudraya, a mammoth reservoir credited to king Parakramabahu of 12th century Sri Lanka.

Angammedilla also secures the drainage basins of Minneriya and Girithale irrigation tanks, water sources in Sudu Kanda (Sinhala for "White Hill") and habitats and wildlife of the adjacent forests.
