Ride the Waves in Arugam Bay: Sri Lanka’s Surfing Mecca

Sri Lanka is one of the most famous surfing destinations that cater to all experience levels. Since the early 60’s Sri Lanka has been a popular surfing destination and attracts surfers from all over the world.

Arugam Bay is on the east coast and the best season to be here is between May to September. The weather gods grace Arugam Bay with dry skies while the rest of the island is battered by monsoon rains.

We will be conducting 15 minutes preparation classes on the beach to teach ‘surfing basics’ before heading out into the water to teach surf fundamentals & safety protocols.

Our local surfing instructors will closely monitor each and every individual during sessions and will make all corrections promptly. Each individual will be able to upgrade their surfing skills to the next level. The goal will be to eventually catch a wave on your own.

Arugam Bay is Sri Lanka’s surf mecca located on the south-east coast. It is an international surf destination with waves perfect for all surf levels! The town may get crowded, but that only means that the surfing conditions here are absolutely incredible.

Advanced surfers surf the main Arugam Bay break, while intermediate and beginner surfers take a tuk-tuk to the surrounding areas. Sand bottom shores, right-hand breaks, and consistent waves all-year-round are only a few of the reasons every surfer should go to a surf camp here at least once in their lives.

The resplendent waters surrounding the moon-shaped curl of soft golden sand in the eastern shores of Sri Lanka are known to be one of the best ‘point breaks’ in the world. Ride through the majestic waves of the ocean as they break in an exhilarating rush.

Surfing is best in Arugam Bay during the season of May to October each year. During this time the UK Pro-Surfers Association’s Sri Lanka Surf Championships is conducted. This event is open to everyone and during this time of the year the entire city becomes a hub of activity as the best surfers from around the world come together to participate in this thrilling event in one of the finest surfing hotspots in the world.
