Why should you book this Wilpattu National Park Safari?

  • The Sri Lankan leopard is a recognised subspecies of the Indian leopard and is currently the largest species of leopard living in Asia. The Wilpattu National Park is known for its numerous opportunities to film and photograph these wonderful animals that are often seen lying beside the park’s many villus.
  • Wilpattu is also home to Sri Lankan sloth bears, which are highly threatened. Less than 1,000 of them are currently living in the wild.
  • Wilpattu National Park is the largest national park in Sri Lanka but has fewer visitors compared to the Yala National Park. This offers you less crowded wildlife encounters.
  • You have 3 options to book safaris in the Wilpattu National Park: [1] morning safari [2] evening safari [3] full day safari.
  • The skill of an experienced guide is included and it makes your Wilpattu safari experience unique.
  • Specially modified, comfortable jeeps are provided for all wilpattu safaris.
  • We also extend customised services for our guests (family safaris/honeymoon safaris/photography safaris etc.)

Tour in brief

You will first meet up with the Sri Lanka Day Tours crew and your Safari Guide at the gate entrance to the Wilpattu National Park. For the morning half-day tour, the starting time will be at 6 a.m. while the afternoon tour begins at 2.30 p.m.

After entering the national park with your guide in a jeep, you will be able to spot several species of birds and other animals that have made their homes in this sanctuary. Your safari could be more focused on leopards, sloth bears, birds etc. depending on your interests.

You will be taken through most of the Wilpattu National Park (Block 1), covering the wetlands, grasslands, forest patches, etc. We will make longer stops at certain watering holes for unique photography opportunities.

We will stop at a designated spot overlooking the lake where you can get down, stretch your legs and enjoy a cup of tea/coffee prepared by our crew.

Finishing the Safari, either round 11 a.m. or around 6 p.m. you will be dropped at the park entrance.

Pick up and drop off could be arranged from your hotel in Wilpattu or any other accommodation in Wilpattu.

Feedback

I would highly recommend Sri Lanka day tours for the half day safari they arranged in Kaudulla Park. It made our trip in Sri Lanka. The kept excellent communication with me both via email and whatsapp to arrange dates, cost and timings for pick ups. The driver for our safari was very well experienced for getting us safely around the park, and what's more, seemed to chose the best route for the drive starting with Eagles, then lone elephants, to a small family of elephants (the youngest being a 2 week old elephant) to the grand finale of approximately 150 wild elephants grouped together. Phenomenal experience and memory for my first safari. Top marks.
