Tour in brief

Your tour begins at the Sri Lanka Day Tours Head Office in Colombo, where you will meet your assisting crew and set off on an unforgettable journey across one of the most exciting locations on the world map. First, delve into the city’s outskirts and survey the lives of the semi-urban residents.

You will then cycle past the Diyawanna Oya (lake) which surrounds the parliament complex. This area serves as an important habitat for lowland birds which makes it a popular hotspot for bird-watching enthusiasts. You can also visit a local Buddhist temple where you will observe the sacred rituals of the devotees.

Next, you will head to the Talangama wetlands, located just a few kilometres away from Colombo city. These aquatic wetlands serve as a crucial refuge for over a hundred species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and a few mammals. Exotic species such as watercocks, eagles, bee-eaters, waders, the endemic Purple-faced Leaf Monkeys and a few monitor lizards can be found in these parts which will add to the excitement of the final phase of your journey.

Stop for a little snack before you head back. On our way back we will make several stop overs, mostly with the locals.

It is considered an important habitat for lowland birds, making it a popular attraction for visiting bird enthusiasts. Some of the birds commonly seen in this area include pelicans, kingfishers and cormorants.

The Talangama wetlands are also located in the suburbs of Colombo, just a few kilometers away from the city. These wetlands serve as an important habitat for hundreds of species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other creatures including amphibians and mammals. The Talangama wetlands however is most known as a birdwatcher’s paradise housing exotic species such as waders, bee-eaters, watercocks, eagles, Lesser Whistling Ducks, Pheasant-tailed Jacanas and many more. It is also home to the Purple-faced Leaf Monkeys as well as a list of reptiles including the monitor lizard.
