Keith is a young and hands-on naturalist who is bursting with enthusiasm for the work he does. Starting his volunteer work in his teenage years and having studied subjects pertaining to biodiversity, conservation and environmental degradation throughout his university career, he has stepped into the professional arena with a glowing portfolio of qualifications and field work. He is a dedicated animal handler, having worked closely with animals from a very young age, while he has also participated in and contributed to several research projects pertaining to matters of biodiversity.

Tour in Brief

  • Your first encounter with us will be at the meeting point at Talangama junction at 5.45 a.m. or 3.45 p.m. where you will be greeted by our staff prior to the commencement of the nature excursion. You will then be given a short briefing on the safety, terrain and other important aspects with regard to the journey by your naturalist/guide
  • You will then be taken to the Talangama wetlands where you will be able to spot an array of exotic birds, dragonflies and butterflies. Sri Lanka’s bird life is nothing short of inspiring and because our tours include a personal naturalist you are guaranteed to be inspired. Here, you might encounter Water Cocks, Eagles, Bee-Eaters, Waders, endemic Purple Faced Leaf Monkeys, Mongoose and Water Monitors as we explore the picturesque Talangama area
  • Your nature excursion in Talangama can be organised at any time of the year although the best season for birding in this area is known to be between November and March, due to the migratory season

Talangama Wetlands

Located just a few kilometres away from Colombo, the Talangama wetlands are known to be home to over 100 different species of migratory, resident and endemic birds. It is the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon in nature and for those who are passionate about birding and nature.

The wetlands are enriched by the Talangama Lake, a small, man-built irrigation tank which still provides water to nearby farms while a unique mangrove ecosystem has emerged in and around the body of water. 

The birds that can be spotted in the wetlands include Black-crowned Night-herons, Little Green Heron, Yellow Wagtails, Water Cocks, Wood Sandpipers and Pintail Snipes. The wetlands are also home to several species of mammals, butterflies and dragonflies including Rapacious Flangetails and Blue-eyed Pondcruisers.
